Blemish Removal
For freckles & pigmentation, pulses of light are readily absorbed by the high concentration of melanin (colour) found within freckles, sun spots or age spots. This heats the melanin and destroys the melanin-rich cells without affecting the surrounding skin.
For thread veins, spider naevi and rosacea, filtered light is absorbed by blood vessels, heating them to a point where they are destroyed. With Rosacea, we can shut down some of the larger, more noticeable vessels but for the majority, we aim to stimulate collagen within the skin to help strengthen the capillary walls resulting in Rosacea flare-ups being less often and less severe.

FAQ's
HOW DO YOU TREAT BLEMISHES?
Depending on which area we treat, we use either our IPL system, which uses intense light, or our special laser called the Nd:YAG, which is a laser that operates at a wavelength that is clinically proven to be very effective for the treatment of these areas.
WHAT'S INVOLVED IN A TREATMENT SESSION?
After a consultation and patch test, your first session will involve us cooling the skin, applying a soothing gel, and using our IPL or laser. You can either sit or lie down on our comfy treatment bed during the treatment. We provide you with eye protection specific for the treatment involved.
WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE?
There's a slight discomfort each time the machine pulses light into your skin. It's like a quick shot of heat on the skin. Some people describe this like a rubber band being flicked and most people find the overall experience to be easily tolerated.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
As the face is a small area and veins are quite small, blemish treatments can take as little as 20 minutes including going over instructions and questions you may have. Depending on the amount to be treated, it could take up to an hour. We usually give you an idea of the treatment times you can expect when you come along for your first consultation.
HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?
The time varies for each person, though typically we would expect:
- Thread veins – 1-3 sessions + maintenance at 4-6 week intervals
- Spider naevi – 1-3 sessions + maintenance at 4-6 week intervals
- Rosacea – 5 sessions + maintenance at 4-6 week intervals
- Freckles & Pigmentation – 1-3 sessions at 4-6 week intervals.
AM I SUITABLE FOR TREATMENT
.Most people's skin is suitable for treatment except very dark or tanned skin. We also cannot treat moles or any raised pigmentation patches; these would be better suited for a Dermatologist or Plastic Surgeon to remove.
WHICH AREAS CAN BE TREATED?
Generally any area on the body can be treated but we do find that the most common areas to be treated are face, neck, decollete and hands. We cannot treat Thread Veins below the knee.
ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?
Most people experience little more than slight reddening and possibly mild swelling which usually disappear within a couple of hours to a couple of days. Very rarely a small blister may form or temporary lightening or darkening of the skin can occur.
HOW DOES IPL WORK FOR ROSACEA?
IPL works by emitting filtered light, which is readily absorbed by blood vessels, heating them to point where they are destroyed. With Rosacea, we can shut down some of the larger, more noticeable vessels but for the majority, we aim to stimulate collagen within the skin to help strengthen the capillary walls resulting in Rosacea flare-ups being less often and less severe. During treatment, a thin layer of chilled gel is applied to the skin to aid light absorption by the vessels. The light is then pulsed over the entire area to be treated. The chilled gel is removed and the area cooled. During the treatment, protective eye-wear will be worn. Following treatment, Rosacea can immediately look worse as we have put more heat into the skin but usually calms down within 48 hours.
WHAT WILL MY FRECKLES / PIGMENTATION LOOK LIKE AFTER TREATMENT?
It will darken over the following few days after treatment and may appear more obvious for around 1-3 weeks. It can also feel a little bit dry and flaky during this time, before the pigment actually flakes off. Afterwards, you should be left with an area without excess pigmentation.
