TATTOO
REMOVAL
IS IT SAFE?
Yes, but not all laser tattoo removal is safe. Some places have very poor quality machinery. We use Lynton machines, which are supplied to the NHS. A team of Ph.D. scientists and Aestheticians design, develop and test all their products to ensure that their laser equipment achieves the most effective, but safest results possible.
CAN I PAY in instalments?
Our majority of clients pay per session, but if your tattoo is on the larger side you can look at paying in instalments in various ways. We'll discuss this with you before starting treatments. You can stop treatment and payment at any time with any of these options.
WHAT TYPE OF MACHINE DO YOU USE?
We use the Lynton Lumina, which is an Active Q-Switched laser, among the most effective for removing unwanted tattoos. Active Q-Switched Lasers are considered by dermatologists to be the most effective, safe and reliable way to remove unwanted multi-coloured tattoos with consistent predictable results.
HOW DOES THE LASER WORK?
The very short pulse of high powered laser light is absorbed by the tattoo ink particles, breaking them down into smaller pieces, enabling your natural immune defences to absorb and disperse the ink.
A gradual fading of the tattoo occurs over a series of treatments.

HOW WILL MY SKIN LOOK AFTERWARDS?
Some skin whitens a little after treatment (this is called frosting), and this generally fades quite quickly. The treated area is likely to feel tender for a few hours and can be red and swollen for up to 48 hours. We recommend a Lynton lasers product to help soothe the skin after each session.
HOW DOES THE TREATMENT FEEL?
MOST PEOPLE DESCRIBE THE SENSATION AS SIMILAR TO A HOT PIN PRICK OR THE FLICK OF AN ELASTIC BAND. WHILST A LITTLE BIT UNCOMFORTABLE, MOST PEOPLE TOLERATE TREATMENT WELL. WE USE A SKIN COOLING DEVICE TO REDUCE ANY DISCOMFORT.
HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?
THIS DEPENDS ON SEVERAL FACTORS, INCLUDING THE DENSITY AND COLOUR OF INKS, YOUR SKIN TONE AND THE AGE OF THE TATTOO. AS A RULE, ANYWHERE BETWEEN 3 (usually amateur) AND 16 (professional). TREATMENT SESSIONS ARE SPACED 6+ WEEKS APART TO ALLOW TIME FOR HEALING. THE MAJORITY OF THE PROCESS RELIES ON YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM AND THIS PLAYS A BIG PART IN THE VARYING NUMBER OF SESSIONS YOU WILL NEED.
DOES THE LASER COMPLETELY REMOVE THE TATTOO?
If the tattoo is one of the easier colours to treat (black, red, yellow, orange, and most purples) then we reduce it to the point where it almost looks gone. We typically say not 100%, but around 85%, so that when looking at it you would never know it was a tattoo, you couldn’t depict the outline or wording, but you would still see a tiny bit of ink that could look like the last bits of a bruise. With the trickier colours (light blues, greens and pastel colours) the fading will be less and result are more variable. It's always best to book in for a consultation prior to embarking on any treatment. We use a Lynton machine, that retails for well over £30,000. It's one of the most advanced lasers for removing tattoos. Some of our competitors are using Chinese machines that cost less than £1000.
WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS?
Temporary blistering, skin redness and some swelling are normal post-session. We use cooling packs during and after each session and recommend a range of products to speed up skin recovery. Tiny red marks called petechiae (pinpoint bleeding under or on top of the skin) can sometimes occur, a bit like some people see after having a tattoo done. Again, cooling packs and post-session care help speed up your recovery.
Even though this is extremely rare, we have to mention every side effect that's ever occurred, like on a leaflet that comes with paracetamol.
Very rarely the skin may become lighter or darker. This can be permanent but usually reverts to normal after a few months.
Scarring of the skin is rare and occurs in less than two per cent of cases.
“Adverse effects can include pinpoint bleeding, blistering, scabbing, crusting, pustules, burns, hypopigmentation, hyperpigmentation, erythema, edema and scarring."
Most people have a very positive experience. We've invested in a top quality British laser machine so that the chances of any side effects is minimised.

HOW LONG AFTER GETTING A TATTOO CAN I HAVE IT REMOVED?
We ask that you leave your new tattoo and skin to heal for at least 8 weeks before starting laser treatment.
how long would it be after removal until i could have a tattoo over the area again?
We suggest to leave your skin time to heal for at least 8 weeks after removal, and allow for more ink to be dispersed by your body before starting on your NEW tattoo.
I hAVE A TAN / FAKE TAN, WHY CAN'T I HAVE TREATMENT?
With an increased level of melanin (colour) in your skin, it is more difficult for the laser removal technology to target the ink and break the pigment up. Laser light is absorbed by melanin so you are more susceptible to having pigmentation issues. Having a tan makes tattoo removal far less effective, and therefore you'd also spend more money than you need to.
HAIR
REMOVAL
WHAT IS LASER & IPL HAIR REMOVAL?
IPL stands for intense pulsed light. We use IPL to treat a variety of skin conditions, including semi-permanent hair removal for the body and face.
Lasers are more intense and precise, which means they can be used to target very specific areas of skin, whereas IPL is generally used on larger areas.
Both IPL treatment and laser treatment work in the same way. Light energy is absorbed by pigment within the hair follicle, heating it up and damaging the hair follicle so that the hair doesn’t grow back.
Both IPL and laser need to target the hair follicles during a specific part of their life cycle (during the growth, or ‘anagen’ phase). Not all of the hairs will be in the anagen phase at the same time, so multiple treatments are needed in order to get the longest-lasting results.

IS IT PERMANENT?
This is a question we get asked a lot and the answer is yes, once we have destroyed a hair follicle in its' anagen stage it can not grow back. However, we cay not say 100% effective, so we prefer to say semi-permanent.
As the laser or IPL kills the cells that make the hair, a new hair cannot grow from that follicle, and the follicle will shrink and can even die. What we cannot do is treat a follicle that has no hair in it. If the area of treatment only has a few hairs i.e on the chin you may only currently have 10% of your potential hair growth. This means in the future you may make more hair in the other 90% of the follicles, but this hair was going to appear anyway and would have compounded on top of your existing growth. So on certain areas of the body on-going treatment may be needed.

WILL IT WORK THIS TIME?
There are many reasons for treatments at other clinics not working - hair suitability, type of equipment used, operator proficiency, treatment spacing and new hair in new follicles appearing. In most cases though, it's the machine. Our Lynton Lumina is one of the best in the business at hair removal.
AM I SUITABLE FOR TREATMENT?
Most people are suitable for treatment. Best results are seen with people who have lighter skin and dark thick hairs. Dark hair is easier to treat as it has a high concentration of pigment. Fairer skins mean there is a bigger contrast between hair and skin. Blonde and grey hair can not be treated as there is no colour in the follicles.
HOW DOES IT FEEL?
Treatment sensation varies from person to person, but is often described as a light flick of an elastic band. Most clients describe the sensation as comfortable, moderate and tolerable.
HOW LONG DOES EACH SESSION TAKE?
The treatment length varies depending on the size of the area. Something small, such as top lip, will take 10 minutes. Something larger like a full leg or full back could be 90 minutes.
WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS ON THE SKIN?
The skin may be red immediately after treatment and the hair follicles may be swollen and raised but this usually subsides within a few hours. We use cooling serums, ice packs and recommend a range of post treatment moisturisers. Adverse reactions are very rare but may include a small blister or temporary lightening or darkening of the skin
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
Only hair that is actively growing is affected, therefore multiple treatments are needed. A typical average number of treatments is 8-12, though it does vary. Treatments are conducted every 4 to 8 weeks depending on the area being treated, until a good result is seen.
Can i have hair removal if i have a tattoo in the area i want treated?
Unfortunately we can not perform hair removal treatments over areas where a tattoo is present as it can potentially lead to burns, blisters or skin damage.
If you have for example, a thigh tattoo and you're wanting full leg hair removal we would section off your tattooed area and treat around it. Then you'd just have to use another method in that area to remove the hair.

BLEMISH
REMOVAL
HOW DO YOU TREAT BLEMISHES?
Depending on which area we treat, we use either our IPL system, which uses intense light, or our special laser called the Nd:YAG, which is a laser that operates at a wavelength that is clinically proven to be very effective for the treatment of these areas.
WHAT'S INVOLVED IN A TREATMENT SESSION?
After a consultation and patch test, your first session will involve us cooling the skin, applying a soothing gel, and using our IPL or laser to project light in to the skin. You can either sit or lie down on our comfy treatment table during the treatment. We provide you with eye protection because the light from the machine is very bright.
WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE?
There's a slight discomfort each time the machine pulses light into your skin. It's like a quick shot of heat on the skin. Some people describe this like a rubber band being flicked and most people find the overall experience to be easily tolerated.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
As the face is a small area and veins are quite small, blemish treatments can take as little as 20 minutes. Depending on the amount to be treated, it could take up to an hour. We usually give you an idea of the treatment times you can expect when you come along for your first consultation.
HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?
The time varies for each person, though typically we would expect:
- Thread veins – 1-3 sessions + maintenance at 4-6 week intervals
- Spider naevi – 1-3 sessions + maintenance at 4-6 week intervals
- Rosacea – 5 sessions + maintenance at 4-6 week intervals
- Freckles & Pigmentation – 1-3 sessions at 4-6 week intervals.
AM I SUITABLE FOR TREATMENT
Most people's skin is suitable for treatment except very dark or tanned skin. We also cannot treat moles or any raised pigmentation patches; these would be better suited for a Dermatologist or Plastic Surgeon to remove
WHICH AREAS CAN BE TREATED?
Generally any area on the body can be treated but we do find that the most common areas to be treated are face, neck, decollete and hands. We cannot treat Thread Veins below the knee.
ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?
Most people experience little more than slight reddening and possibly mild swelling which usually disappear within a couple of hours to a couple of days. Very rarely a small blister may form or temporary lightening or darkening of the skin can occur.
HOW DOES IPL WORK FOR ROSACEA?
IPL works by emitting filtered light, which is readily absorbed by blood vessels, heating them to point where they are destroyed. With Rosacea, we can shut down some of the larger, more noticeable vessels but for the majority, we aim to stimulate collagen within the skin to help strengthen the capillary walls resulting in Rosacea flare-ups being less often and less severe. During treatment, a thin layer of chilled gel is applied to the skin to aid light absorption by the vessels. The light is then pulsed over the entire area to be treated. The chilled gel is removed and the area cooled. During the treatment, protective eye-wear will be worn. Following treatment, Rosacea can immediately look worse as we have put more heat into the skin but usually calms down within 48 hours.
WHAT WILL MY FRECKLES / PIGMENTATION LOOK LIKE AFTER TREATMENT?
It will darken over the following few days after treatment and may appear more obvious for around 1-3 weeks. It can also feel a little bit dry and flaky during this time, before the pigment actually flakes off. Afterwards, you should be left with an area without excess pigmentation.
